Selected composers

NEWS

We are proud to be able to announce the winning composer for Belgium.  Our country will be represented by the originally Italian composer Giulia Monducci. Among other subjects, she studied ‘composition’ under Jan Van Landeghem at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and is currently working as a freelance composer on multidisciplinary projects (theatre, dance, video). In addition, she is writing contemporary pieces for solo-instruments, chamber music and orchestras.

Eric Sleichim, chair of the jury, had this to say about Giulia Monducci: “What I love about her music is that you can feel the great mastery in her composing. She has an understanding not only of the technical aspects of the instruments but also of their identities. She is successful, for example, in drawing poetry from the soprano saxophone and allowing virtuosity to resound. No small task for a young composer.

Giulia Monducci  will be asked to compose a piece for (one to four) percussion instruments along the theme of Exoticism in Music. For more information about MusMA, check http://www.musma.eu
